10 Secret and Beautiful Places to get married on Madeira Island

Have a look at our list of 10 Beautiful places to get Married on the island of Madeira:

1 – Fajã dos Padres

A unique refuge, with incredible access via a spectacular cable car, a deserted beach, a myriad of exotic fruits and vegetables to try, and a story to unravel.

A cosy, isolated and autonomous refuge, surrounded by nature.

To contemplate, reflect, and restore energies. And then gain inspiration and motivation.

It is about 300 meters, lived in 2 and a half minutes of descending journey, following the slope of the huge cliff to Fajã dos Padres. The journey seems too short to encompass all the surrounding beauty: the south coast of Madeira Island to Ponta do Sol, the small bay and fertile land of Fajã that is approaching, and the sea, as far as the eye can see.

Access to the Fajã dos Padres cable car is 28.5 km from the airport, about 10 km from Funchal, and less than 6 km from Ribeira Brava.

The rehabilitation of the old buildings in Fajã dos Padres is the result of the dream and work of two generations.

Among what remained of the small houses, some former settlers’ residences, others that served as haystacks, and yet another, which served as a warehouse for fishing material, nine tourist houses were reborn, one by one. The houses were simple but comfortable, and we think that today they honour the memory of the place and of those who lived here for several centuries.

Today, these houses allow an immersion in the unique environment that Fajã dos Padres offers:

Spectacular, due to the presence of the huge slope to the north.

Rural and agricultural, due to the profusion of vineyards and fruit trees around; Relaxing, because the sea and the sounds of nature are always present. It is an appeal to the senses, what we offer our guests.
We challenge you to make that discovery!

2 – Casa do Sardinha (Ponda de S. Lourenço)

Ponta de São Lourenço is the easternmost point of Madeira Island, occupying nine kilometres in length, in the form of a peninsula, at the end of which are the islet of Desembarcadouro (islet of Metade or Cevada) and the islet of Farol.

In this area, the Baía d’Abra is of particular importance in terms of landscape, which, due to its configuration and large extension, provides excellent mooring conditions. To the west, after the Quinta do Lorde marina, is the picturesque Prainha – a small beach with dark sand. Overlooking this is the Morro da Piedade, a volcanic cone, where a chapel alluding to Nossa Senhora da Piedade was erected in the 16th century. North of Prainha, the Piedade Dunes are prominent. This dune building holds 300,000-year-old fossils from the Quaternary, constituting unique records in Europe. Fossilized roots can be found here, which indicate the ancestral existence of a much more abundant and larger vegetation than that which now characterizes the area.

Internationally awarded, this building is the stage for exhibitions, musical shows, plays and conferences. The ‘Casa das Mudas’ has 200 seats, an auditorium, a library, a shop, a cafeteria, a restaurant and a wide area of cultural entertainment for ateliers and artistic workshops and a covered car park.
